Description and Goals of the Youth Ministry Programs

As an important arm of ministry within the body of Christ that is First Covenant Church, the youth ministry at this church joins the larger church body in the vision,

“To present everyone mature in Christ” (Colossians 1:28).

In this youth ministry we see that vision being realized in 1 Timothy 2:12:

“Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Our imperatives in achieving this vision are:

Worship – Encountering Christ Together
Discipleship – Growing in Christ Together
Fellowship – Enjoying Life in Christ Together
Ministry – Serving Christ Together
Accountability
– Walking in Christ Together

A key to growing in the Lord in these imperatives is participating in the body of Christ together.  The youth program provides the following opportunities to grow in the Lord through the five imperative:

Youth GroupOur youth group programs include games, prayer, worship and most importantly Bible Study.  The Bible studies go verse by verse through a book in the Bible to learn how God’s Word applies to our lives and how to study and understand the Bible for ourselves.  Youth group focuses on the imperatives of worship, discipleship, fellowship and accountability.

We offer two different youth groups:

Replenish.  Senior High Youth Group, grades 9-12, meets Thursday Nights from 6:45-8:30 pm in the youth room (rooms 117/118)

CHAOS! – Christ Has All Our Solutions.  Junior High Youth Group, grades 6-8, meets Sunday Nights from 6:45-8:30 pm in the youth room (rooms 117/118).

Sunday School.  First Covenant Church offers a Bible Education Hour for all ages on Sunday mornings from 9:15-10:15 am.  This program focuses on discipleship and accountability.

Senior High Sunday School (meeting in the youth room, room 117/118) is journeying through a “Walk Through the Bible.”  Each week we study a new book in the Bible to learn the key concepts, characters and important applications for our lives.  Students are learning the large picture of how God was the same in the Old Testament as he is today, and learning the full history of our faith and how that should shape our understanding of our faith.

Junior High Sunday School meets in the fellowship hall.  They study a book of the Bible to understand key concepts and people.

Service Projects and Mission Trips.  The youth program tries to provide youth with regular opportunities to consider others before themselves.  These opportunities may serve individuals, our church, community or world.  Our church gathers food for food baskets, we have served at a community homeless shelter, packed food for starving nations and other various activities.  These events focus on ministry and fellowship.

Retreats, Camp and Conferences.  Intense overnight youth events can help a youth grow in their walk with the Lord in ways that a short event can rarely accomplish.  These events can take place at various locations with different themes.  The Covenant Church does operate a beautiful camp in Yelm, WA called Camp of the Cascades, that we try to use often.  These events can focus on any or all of our faith building imperatives.

Other Youth Events.  To meet the needs in our youth we may offer other youth events of various sorts.  They may focus on any of the imperatives that will help meet our vision.
